Where you'll work
You’ll join a fast-paced, human resources team that serves Fehr Graham’s offices across Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa. This position can be based in our Rockford or Freeport, Illinois, offices. This will be an in-office role with the opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement over time. It’s important to note that you must live within driving distance of any one of the two offices mentioned above. What you'll do
You’ll play a key role in keeping Fehr Graham’s human resources operations running smoothly. You’ll support our HR team and work closely with leadership and employees to support key HR functions, including:
  • Employee records management. Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel files while handling sensitive information with discretion.
  • Compliance and background screenings. Complete Form I-9s, verify supporting documents and assist with new employee background checks.
  • Employee relations. Support HR leadership in handling personnel matters, answering employee questions and ensuring policies are effectively communicated. You will be tasked with helping colleagues develop and execute career pathway growth plans.
  • Recruitment. You will lead the university recruiting, internship program and entry-level recruitment. Assist with the experienced hire employee hiring process, pre-employment and onboarding to bring top talent to Fehr Graham.
  • Travel. Attend career fairs and visit other Fehr Graham offices to support HR initiatives.
  • Administrative support. Help with reporting, processing confidential documents and providing high-quality customer service to employees and applicants.
  • HR system management. Enter and update employee data in HRIS and other related systems.
  • Process improvement. Collaborate with leadership to enhance internal HR processes and improve employee engagement.
What it takes
This role is perfect for someone who is organized, detail-oriented and passionate about supporting a growing team. Ideally, you’ll have a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience. But we’re eager to talk to you if you have an associate degree and at least five years of experience in human resources. To succeed as a Human Resources Generalist, you’ll also need:
  • Strong communication skills. You’ll interact with employees at all levels and should communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Problem-solving skills. The ability to think critically, address challenges and find solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills. Managing tasks and keeping HR processes running smoothly requires attention to detail.
  • Flexibility. HR is always evolving, and being adaptable to shifting priorities will help you thrive in this role.
  • A customer-service mindset. You’ll be a key resource for your colleagues, providing support and guidance with a friendly and helpful attitude.
  • Discretion and professionalism. Handling sensitive employee information means confidentiality is a must.
  • Tech proficiency. Experience with ADP, applicant tracking systems, Handshake and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). You should also have the ability to learn other HR systems quickly.
