Job Description

Adelphi is seeking a school counselor to provide counseling services for school-based mental health services in La Plata, Maryland.
The ideal candidate will work closely with the school administration to provide mental health services to students, staff and families in accordance with established guidelines and standards of practice.

Requirements:  

  • A master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Licensed to work in MD.
  • Demonstrated competence, ethical practice, and communication skills.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive mental health services to students in Pre-K through Grade 12, including individual, group, and family counseling as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and routinely review individualized mental health goals for assigned students, ensuring appropriate documentation and progress monitoring.
  • Deliver prevention and intervention services, including substance-abuse education, early intervention supports, and referrals to community-based resources.
  • Support school staff and families through teacher skill trainings, monthly parent workshops, consultation with school-based professionals, and distribution of resource information.
  • Provide services primarily in person, with the ability to transition to virtual counseling as needed to meet student needs.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to support program design, participate in biweekly/monthly reviews, and contribute to continuity-of-care plans and quality improvement efforts.
  • Maintain timely reporting and documentation, including monthly, mid-year, and end-of-year reports, secure electronic communication, and compliance with informed-consent and referral procedures.
  • Contribute to program accountability by participating in data collection systems, engaging in annual outcome reviews, and ensuring proper supervision, training, and staffing practices.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
