City of Portland - Maintenance Worker III - Streets & Sidewalks

Department of Public Works

Up to \$2,500 Sign On Bonus Available for external candidates

Streets & Sidewalks is seeking a motivated individual to perform a

variety of skilled maintenance work on City streets and sidewalks and during winter operations.

The schedule for this position is Monday thru Friday, 6:30am to 2:30pm.

10 hour shifts are offered outside of the winter season.

Requirements:

Thorough knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a wide

variety of light and heavy construction equipment.

Ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely.

Ability to make minor repairs.

Good visual acuity for driving and physical strength.

Must possess the agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to

adverse climatic conditions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with

other employees, supervisors and members of the public.

Must have good customer service skills.

Must be able to work outside in all elements of weather.

Must be willing to work mandatory overtime during winter period.

Possess valid Maine Class A or B drivers license.

Must undergo a pre-employment medical exam and lift assessment and pass

federally mandated drug test if applicant holds Class A or B license.

Must have and maintain a good driving record.

Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a

satisfactory criminal background check.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, Labor & Trades (Grade 18CDL) - \$26.78 to

\$29.65/hr. Starting pay will be based on qualifications and years of experience. Extra \$1.00 stipend will be paid for a Class A license.
